I am a practicing Artist with a background in Printmaking. However, my real interest lies within the highly science based arena of Synaesthesia. This is where my body of Research stems from. I strive to close the gap between Art and Science.

I have just completed a body of research in conjunction with completing a masters degree. This involved a collaborative project where I worked with someone with the rare ability or being able to see music visually (a form of synaesthesia). Through researching into aspects of sound/vision synaesthesia I was reading a lot of science based materials into the biological makeup as well as synaesthesia specific literatures. As a result, I have experience of using a wide range of research materials, as well as an understanding of ethical considerations and procedures which are applicable when working in a collaborative manner, ensuring all parties are protected for multiple eventualities.

Gallery Assistant (Edinburgh Printmakers)

2010 - 2011

I was a gallery  assistant and shop supervisor for Edinburgh Printmakers where I had a number of responsibilities. These included general administrative duties, updating the customer databases, taking bookings, hanging exhibitions as well as carrying out a weekly shop stock take, replenishing stock as necessary and training up the interns.

I was a voluntary marketing assistant at Out of the Blue where I updated the mailing lists as well as organised the weekly/monthly listings, ensuring they went out to the relevant organisations. I also did general administrative duties.

At undergraduate level I completed a fine art degree, where I specialised in printmaking. I was interested in the narrative within children's fairytales and folklore and how they might shape a child's development as they progress to adulthood.

Master of  Research in Creative Practices

As a research student I was taught various methodologies that I could later apply within my own research area. The course culminated in a three month research project where a thesis was submitted along with any practical submission. My Research question was as follows;

If it is the case that synaesthesia was experienced by all of us early in life, can it be retrieved through a recreated synaesthetic experience. A collaborative project that looks to re-establish a lost synaesthetic experience as demonstrated through the implementation of a recreated synaesthetic visualisation.
